Kitesurfing in Famara
Famara has a prevailing wind direction from the North. This happens to be perfect for kitesurfing pretty much the full length of Famara beach. North wind mean cross onshore winds coming from the right as you look out to sea or as you go out on your starboard tack. Best conditions are at low tide but this amazing water sport can be enjoyed at all tide ranges. Full high tide can become a little restrictive and ideal conditions are low tide.
Kitesurf Equipment
The equipment needed to kitesurf is:-
1 - Wet suit: Later in summer you may not feel the need for a wet suit as the water becomes nice and warm, especially on sunny days.
2 - Kiteboard: We have a variety of boards to get you up and kiting. To start with we will advise you and the best and easiest boards to get you up and riding. As your kitesurfing skill progress you will become more familiar with the equipment and be able to try out different boards with differing features.
3 - Kitesurf kite: For stronger winds you need a smaller kite. We have a full range of kitesurfing kites and will advise you on the right kite to suit you weight, skill level and conditions.
4 - Harness: This goes around your waist and features a hook at the front to which you will attach the front two lines of the kite via a loop. The back two kite lines attach to the control bar which you use to steer and brake the Kite. Again we have a selection to fit all sizes.
5 - Pump: Almost all modern Kitesurf kites have inflatable struts for both rigidiy and bouyancy. The pumps enable the inflation of the struts. The pumping process only take a few minutes and serves as a nice warm up.
